Top 5 Entertainment Apps on Unified Platform in Africa for Q3 2023

In the third quarter of 2023, Africa's entertainment app market displayed some compelling trends across the top five apps: Disney+, TikTok, Showmax, Shahid - ﺷﺎﻫﺪ, and Amazon Prime Video. Data from Sensor Tower reveals insights into their performance in terms of weekly downloads, revenue, and active users.

Disney+ saw a robust trend in weekly revenue, peaking at around $351K in the week of September 25. Weekly downloads fluctuated but culminated in a peak of approximately 56.5K at the end of the quarter. Meanwhile, weekly active users showed a steady increase, reaching nearly 593K.

TikTok experienced significant weekly downloads, with numbers consistently above 1.3M, and peaking at 1.88M in early September. Weekly revenue varied, peaking at about $428K in early July. Weekly active users remained high and stable, hovering around 43M throughout the quarter.

Showmax displayed a variable trend in weekly revenue, peaking at roughly $74K at the end of June. Weekly downloads were highest in late July at around 63.5K. However, weekly active users showed a gradual decline, ending the quarter at approximately 642K.

Shahid - ﺷﺎﻫﺪ had a notable increase in weekly downloads, peaking at about 354.7K in late August. Weekly revenue also saw an upward trend, reaching around $44K in the same period. Weekly active users rose significantly, reaching a high of nearly 678K in late August.

Amazon Prime Video showed a steady trend in weekly downloads, peaking at approximately 54K in the last week of September. Weekly revenue saw a slight peak at about $30K in the same week. Weekly active users, while fluctuating, ended the quarter at around 304K.
