The second quarter of 2023 brought notable trends for the top 5 entertainment apps in Kenya. Here’s a closer look at their performance based on Sensor Tower data.

TikTok exhibited a dynamic quarter. Weekly revenue fluctuated, peaking at around $10.9K in early June. Downloads saw a significant drop from 292K in early April to 81.8K by mid-June, before rebounding to 144K at the end of June. Active users remained steady, ranging from approximately 3.7M to 4M throughout the quarter.

Showmax experienced a decline in weekly downloads, starting at 12.6K in late March and dropping to just under 7K by the end of June. Revenue also saw a downward trend, from $2.5K in late March to $1.5K in late June. Active users showed a slight decrease, from around 155K in late March to 127K by the end of June.

Amazon Prime Video maintained relatively stable performance. Downloads varied from 3.5K in late March to a peak of 5.7K by the end of June. Revenue had minor fluctuations, peaking at $1.8K in early June. Active users remained consistent, hovering between 27.9K and 37K throughout the quarter.

Netflix showed robust download numbers, starting at 44.4K in late March and peaking at 54.4K in early May before slightly declining to 36.8K by the end of June. Weekly revenue was relatively stable, with a peak of $1.2K in early June. Active users ranged from 503K to 564K, showing a healthy engagement throughout the quarter.

Shahid - ﺷﺎﻫﺪ had the lowest performance among the top 5. Downloads and active users were minimal, with downloads decreasing from 686 in late March to just 17 by the end of June. Revenue also saw a decline, from $246 in late March to $135 by the end of June. Active users dropped from 811 in late March to 291 by the end of June.
