The second quarter of 2023 saw interesting trends in the performance of the top five entertainment apps on the Android platform in Ghana. These apps, which include StarTimes ON-Live TV, Football, Netflix, GB WMashapp - Washatsapp Plus, YouTube Kids, and MyDStv Africa, showed varied patterns in weekly downloads and active user engagement. Below we detail their performance based on data from Sensor Tower.

StarTimes ON-Live TV, Football experienced a gradual decline in weekly downloads from late March to late May, dropping from around 14K to 5K. However, a recovery was noted in June, with downloads climbing back up to approximately 11.8K. Active users followed a similar trend, starting at 37.6K in late March, decreasing to about 22.2K by the end of May, and then rising again to 29K in mid-June before slightly dropping to 25.3K by the end of the quarter.

Netflix saw a fluctuation in weekly downloads, peaking at 10.3K at the beginning of April and then experiencing a dip to around 5.8K in early June, followed by a slight increase to 7.5K by the end of June. Active users remained relatively stable, starting at 547K and fluctuating around the 550K mark throughout the quarter, with a peak of 585K in early April.

GB WMashapp - Washatsapp Plus demonstrated a significant increase in weekly downloads, starting from just 134 in late March and peaking at 10.3K by the end of May. This was followed by a decline to around 5K by the end of June. Active users showed a corresponding rise from 185 in late March to a peak of 5.3K at the end of May, with a slight decrease to 3.1K by the end of June.

YouTube Kids had relatively steady weekly downloads, fluctuating between 3.1K and 4.4K throughout the quarter. Active users were consistently above 100K, peaking at 105.6K in late June.

MyDStv Africa experienced a varied trend in weekly downloads, peaking at 4.4K in early April before dropping to around 1.5K in late May and then recovering to approximately 4K by the end of June. Active users showed a similar pattern, starting at 49.1K in late March, peaking at 53.8K in mid-April, and then fluctuating around 50K for the remainder of the quarter.
