Throughout the first quarter of 2023, the performance of the top five entertainment applications on the Android platform in Nigeria showcased interesting trends in weekly downloads and active users. Data from Sensor Tower reveals these patterns in apps such as Netflix, AVO TV - Live and on-demand TV, MyGOtv, MyDStv Africa, and Video Downloader and Player.
Netflix experienced a diverse trend in weekly downloads, starting strong with 49K in the last week of December 2022, but showing a slight decline to approximately 39K by the end of March 2023. Weekly active users initially stood at 533K, gradually decreasing to around 461K by the end of the quarter.
AVO TV - Live and on-demand TV saw consistent download numbers, peaking at 31K in mid-February before declining to 13K by the end of March. Its active user base remained relatively stable, peaking at 285K in late February, and ending the quarter at 248K.
MyGOtv showed fluctuations in weekly downloads, starting at 28K in late December 2022, dropping to 13K at the end of January, and then rising to 23K in late February. Active users followed a similar pattern, beginning at 91K and closing the quarter at 79K.
MyDStv Africa exhibited steady weekly download numbers with a peak of 18K in mid-February, ending at 11K by late March. Active users began at 155K, peaked at 174K in late February, and ended the quarter at 150K.
Video Downloader and Player saw significant growth, starting from 14K downloads in late February and reaching 56K by the end of March. Active users surged from 10K to 105K over the same period.
