As Q1 of 2021 unwrapped, the digital book landscape on iOS in Europe presented a mosaic of performance metrics across leading applications. Sensor Tower's data provides a glimpse into the trends of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users for these top contenders.

Wattpad - Read & Write Stories, a platform for reading and writing stories, showed a decrease in weekly downloads from 98K in the first week of January to 72K by the end of March. Revenue also saw an overall decline from 33K USD to around 32K USD in the same period. However, the app's weekly active users increased from 3.3M to over 4.1M, indicating growing engagement despite the download and revenue trends.

Despite not generating revenue during this quarter, Amazon Kindle experienced fluctuations in both downloads and weekly active users. Downloads peaked at 68K in late December, dropping to 41K by March's end. Active users followed a similar pattern, starting at 705K and dipping to approximately 611K.

Audible: Audio Entertainment observed a gentle uptick in revenue from nearly 12K USD to over 16K USD throughout the quarter. Downloads, however, trended downwards from 68K to 39K. Weekly active users saw a peak in late February at 822K but ended the quarter at around 771K.

Storytel: Audiobooks & Ebooks painted a different picture, with revenue swinging from 215K USD to 190K USD by March, showing a notable spike to 254K USD in the third week of February. Downloads started strong at 37K but saw a gradual decline to 31K. The app's active users were more stable, starting at 485K and finishing the quarter at 522K.

Lastly, Litres: Books and audiobooks revealed a revenue increase from 118K USD in late December to 171K USD by the quarter's close. Downloads saw a peak at 33K in early January, descending to 23K by March's end, while weekly active users remained relatively steady, hovering around 180K throughout the quarter.
