According to Sensor Tower’s App Performance Insights, Honor of Kings maintained its lead in global mobile game revenue in August. In China, the game launched two major events from August 8–15: the Summer Farm Friends Festival and the Endless Game Parallel World skin series. The update introduced the new hero LuYana, the limited-time Extreme Frenzy mode featuring shorter cooldowns and stackable upgrades, free draws, new cosmetics, and event-exclusive rewards to drive engagement and spending.

Gossip Harbor delivered another standout performance, supported by a carefully paced live-ops calendar. Water Wonders and Dollhouse of Dreams carried momentum from July into the first half of the month, before Fourth-Year Festivities celebrated the game’s fourth anniversary with gala-themed merge objectives and exclusive rewards. The dragon-rescue storyline Slay the Dragon, Save the Day! sustained engagement through late August, while Escape from Raccoon Beach and the autumn-themed The Turning Leaves provided fresh collection goals extending into September.

Other top-grossing games maintained engagement and spending through a steady flow of themed events. Whiteout Survival delivered a packed August calendar led by its Kingshot collaboration. Its centerpiece, Twin Star Adventure, took players on a cooperative, story-driven polar bear expedition, while alliance competitions such as State of Power and Winter Siege kept groups competing throughout the month. Royal Match featured Dragon Nest and the timed Lightning Rush competition during August, adding cooperative and competitive formats to its broader live-ops calendar. Meanwhile, Candy Crush Saga maintained engagement through a well-paced sequence of content, moving from Bubblegum Season into the multi-round Candy Cup 2026 tournament before Music Season arrived at the end of August.

Global consumer spending on mobile games across the App Store and Google Play reached $6.57 billion in August, down 1% month-over-month. The United States accounted for 28.6% of total revenue, followed by China (iOS only) at 16.7% and Japan at 12.2%.

On the revenue growth chart, Fate/Grand Order, a turn-based RPG, ranked No. 1 worldwide. Growth was driven primarily by Japan, where the game recorded its highest monthly revenue of 2026 in August. Its 11th Anniversary celebration offered daily login rewards, new missions, special challenges, and limited-time character draws led by the newly introduced Hassan of the Azrael. The annual Swimsuit Event 2026 followed with summer-themed outfits and new collectible characters, helping sustain player spending into early September.

Tencent-owned or published games claimed five of the top 10 spots by worldwide revenue growth in August, led by Teamfight Tactics and VALORANT at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Growth was driven primarily by China. The Chinese version of Teamfight Tactics introduced the Force of Nature season, which refreshed the playable characters and strategic options, alongside a premium Gwen character cosmetic with two interchangeable designs. VALORANT released two themed weapon collections: the traditional Chinese art-inspired Ink Warrior and the floral Thousand Spirits, launched as part of the mobile game’s first-anniversary celebrations.

Game for Peace, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and Delta Force also climbed the rankings. Game for Peace offered characters, weapons, and vehicles from the animated series Swallowed Star, while Wild Rift combined fourth-anniversary rewards with new Crystal Rose 2026 character outfits. Delta Force’s Treasure Month encouraged players to log in, complete matches, and hunt for valuable in-game collectibles. Together, these campaigns show how Tencent used major updates, anniversary celebrations, popular entertainment collaborations, and limited-edition cosmetics to bring players back and create new spending opportunities throughout August.

Ranking No. 10 on the worldwide revenue growth chart, newcomer Zeus: The God of Arrogance has held the No. 1 position by mobile game revenue in South Korea since its late-August launch. Published by Com2uS Holdings, the competitive MMORPG reimagines Greek mythology through large-scale battles, class-based combat, and competitive modes designed for players at different progression levels. It also features an offline system that continues developing characters while players are away and a crafting-focused class that can produce exclusive items, supporting both long-term progression and the in-game economy.

Overall, August’s results showed that effective live ops is as much about pacing as scale. Leading games combined major updates, anniversaries, and IP collaborations with frequent rewards, limited-time modes, premium cosmetics, and locally relevant celebrations, giving players recurring reasons to return and spend throughout the month. Meanwhile, fast-rising newcomers demonstrated that well-positioned launches can still break through a competitive market.
