In the final quarter of 2022, the US consumer finance app landscape saw varied user engagement and download figures across leading platforms. Sensor Tower's data offers a granular look into how these applications fared during this period.
Cash App maintained strong download numbers, starting the quarter with around 594k downloads and peaking at approximately 659k in early October. The trend slightly waned towards the end of the year, settling around 582k by December's end. Weekly active users (WAUs) for Cash App remained robust, hovering around the 21 million mark, with slight fluctuations throughout the quarter.
Venmo experienced a steady decline in downloads, starting at 370k and dipping to about 293k in mid-December before a slight recovery to nearly 293k towards the year's end. Its WAUs saw a significant drop from 19 million to around 16 million, with a notable dip in November.
For Zelle, downloads remained relatively consistent, with the quarter beginning at 281k and closing at approximately 254k. The app's WAUs showed a small decline, starting at around 1.3 million and decreasing to just over 1.2 million by the end of December.
