Q1 2023 Recap: Top Film & Television Apps in Latin America on Android

The first quarter of 2023 has been an interesting period for the Film & Television category on Android in the Latin American market. Here's a snapshot of how the top applications have performed, with data courtesy of Sensor Tower.

Globoplay: filmes, séries e + showed a significant revenue increase, starting the quarter with around $305k and peaking at approximately $751k in mid-January, before ending March at nearly $498k. Downloads for the app rose to around 365k in mid-January but then followed a downward trend to about 106k by the end of March. Weekly active users spiked at around 8 million in mid-January and subsequently declined to approximately 4.9 million by the end of Q1.

HBO Max: Stream TV & Movies also saw a revenue uptick, with early January numbers at around $414k and a peak of roughly $521k in mid-January, concluding the quarter at about $425k. Downloads for HBO Max surged to almost 838k in mid-January but dipped to approximately 555k by late March. The app's weekly active users reached a high of around 7.5 million in late February, decreasing to about 6 million at the end of March.

Disney+ maintained a steady revenue flow, starting at $430k in late December and reaching nearly $488k in mid-January, with the quarter ending at about $439k. The app's download numbers were highest in early January at over 729k, dropping to around 460k by March's close. Weekly active users were highest at the start of January with more than 8 million, ending the quarter with roughly 6.7 million.

Crunchyroll experienced modest revenue growth from around $195k at the end of December to approximately $224k by late March. Downloads peaked at around 346k in late January, later settling at nearly 240k by the quarter's end. Weekly active users saw a high of almost 2.5 million in late February, with a slight decrease to about 2.3 million by March's end.

Lastly, Paramount+ had a steady revenue trend, starting at around $113k and ending the quarter close to $124k. Downloads for Paramount+ saw a significant jump to about 885k in late January, followed by a decrease to roughly 284k by the end of Q1. The app's weekly active users reached a peak of 2 million in late January and saw a mild decline to around 1.4 million at the quarter's conclusion.
