Q1 2023 Performance of Top Film & Television Apps on Android in Europe

The first quarter of 2023 has been a dynamic period for the Film & Television category on Android devices in Europe. Sensor Tower's latest data sheds light on the performance of the top applications in this sector.

Disney+ showed a noticeable decline in downloads from around 831k in late December to approximately 306k by the end of March. Despite this, it maintained a relatively stable weekly active user base, starting at around 11 million in December and slightly decreasing to approximately 10 million by March. The app's revenue also saw a downward trend from about $2.4 million to just over $2 million before experiencing a spike to around $2.8 million in the final week of March.

Crunchyroll experienced a steady revenue increase from around $387k to almost $500k by the end of the quarter. Downloads for the app fluctuated, with a drop from 63k to around 60k, while weekly active users saw a peak of approximately 1 million in late February before settling closer to 933k.

HBO Max: Stream TV & Movies showed a mixed performance with its revenue rising from about $333k to $350k. Downloads for the app declined from 169k to around 95k, and the app's active users decreased from roughly 789k to 743k over the quarter.

discovery+ | Stream TV Shows had a consistent revenue pattern with slight variations, starting at around $145k and ending the quarter at about $155k. The app's downloads saw an initial spike to approximately 40k in mid-January, followed by a gradual decrease to around 17k. The weekly active users showed a peak of around 169k in the same period, but eventually dropped to approximately 130k.

Paramount+ generated revenue that grew from around $93k to almost $142k. Downloads began at approximately 214k in December, followed by a steady decline to around 83k. The weekly active user base showed some volatility, peaking at around 411k before ending the quarter with about 360k active users.
