MMM: US Retail Sales Data for November Shows Pullback
US retail sales data for November shows a pullback in consumer spending, with weak growth in key categories such as consumer electronics, home furnishings and home improvement. This is in line with Sensor Tower estimates for its retail cohort, which also saw flat DAUs in the 17 days from Thanksgiving. Shipping apps, including FedEx, USPS and UPS, are also facing pressure on download and MAU growth as e-commerce growth slows and in-store shopping rises.
Key Takeaways:
Weak November US Retail sales data highlights consumers’ spending pullback and corroborates the soft MAU growth trends seen in Sensor Tower estimates for its retail cohort
In the 17 days from Thanksgiving, DAUs for the cohort were essentially flat but down in key big ticket categories, including consumer electronics, home furnishings and home improvement, in line with US Census data
Shipping apps, including those of FedEx, USPS and UPS, are facing growing pressure on download and MAU growth, as e-commerce growth slows, in-store shopping rises, and consumers increasingly balk at the high costs of shipping.
