In the third quarter of 2024, the navigation app landscape on iOS in South Africa showcased interesting trends. According to Sensor Tower data, the top five apps in this category displayed varying patterns in downloads, revenue, and active users.

Google Maps maintained its dominance with a consistent rise in weekly downloads, starting from approximately 13.7K in early July and reaching a peak of 17.6K by the end of September. Its weekly active users hovered around the 600K mark, peaking at 622.7K in late September.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic experienced stable weekly downloads, ranging from 4.2K to 5.4K throughout the quarter. The app's active user base remained steady, fluctuating slightly around 193K to 200K.

The Bolt Driver App saw a modest increase in downloads, culminating in 794 by the end of September, with active users growing steadily from 7.9K to 8.6K over the quarter.

For the GPS Phone Location Tracker, revenue figures showed an upward trend, starting at $95 in early July and rising to $481 by the end of September. Downloads followed a similar pattern, beginning with 79 in early July and reaching 694 by mid-September.

Lastly, Citymapper: All Live Transit showed a slight decline in weekly downloads, starting from 544 and ending at 345. The app's revenue remained relatively stable, with minor fluctuations around the $100 mark, while active users stayed consistent, averaging around 2.3K.
