In the first quarter of 2024, the Utilities category has seen varied performances among the top apps in Australia. Here's a snapshot of how five key players have fared on the unified iOS and Android platforms, with data courtesy of Sensor Tower.
myGov, published by Services Australia, showed a fluctuating download trend starting at approximately 72K in the first week and peaking at around 93K, before dipping to 66K by the end of the quarter. Weekly active users grew from roughly 620K to a high of 724K, before closing at about 705K.
Google, despite having no reported revenue, maintained a strong presence. Downloads for the app wavered, beginning at 43K and decreasing to 28K, indicating a downward trend. Active users started at an impressive 4.6M, with minor fluctuations, ending slightly lower at 4.4M.
Google Chrome also experienced a decline in downloads from 22K to 18K over the quarter. However, weekly active users remained relatively stable, hovering around 8.1M to 8.2M.
Google Authenticator saw downloads grow from 15K to a peak of 25K in early February, but ended the quarter at around 16K. The app's active users showed more volatility, with an initial 230K growing to 290K and then retracting to approximately 251K by quarter's end.
Lastly, My Telstra downloads moved between 20K and 23K without a clear trend. Weekly active users for the app showed a slight decline from 165K to 156K over the quarter.
