Top 5 Travel Apps on Unified Platform in Africa in Q1 2023

The first quarter of 2023 saw interesting trends in the performance of the top five travel applications in Africa, with data sourced from Sensor Tower. Here's a closer look at how these apps fared in terms of downloads and active users.

Bolt: Request a Ride experienced a slight decline in weekly downloads from late December 2022 to mid-January 2023, dropping from approximately 160K to 130K. However, the app saw a recovery towards the end of the quarter, peaking at around 147K downloads in mid-March. Active users remained relatively stable, ranging between 2.2M to 2.3M throughout the quarter.

Uber - Request a ride showed a consistent download trend, starting at about 119K in the last week of December 2022 and ending at around 84K in late March 2023. The number of active users fluctuated slightly but stayed robust, averaging around 2.6M, with a peak of approximately 2.8M in late January.

inDrive. Save on city rides saw an increase in downloads at the beginning of the quarter, reaching about 145K in early January. However, downloads tapered off towards the end of March, falling to approximately 102K. Active users showed a steady increase, peaking at around 1.3M in mid-March.

Booking.com: Hotels & Travel had a consistent download rate starting at around 40K and maintaining a steady pace, ending the quarter at approximately 33K. Active users remained stable, averaging around 620K throughout the quarter.

Yango: taxi, food, delivery displayed a varied download trend, beginning at about 105K in late December 2022 and peaking at approximately 164K in late January. Downloads then declined to about 48K by the end of March. The number of active users also showed a downward trend, starting from around 319K and ending at approximately 305K.
