During the second quarter of 2022, the top five news applications on a unified platform in Africa experienced varied performance trends in terms of weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s a closer look at how these apps fared, based on data from Sensor Tower.

X from X Corp. saw a fluctuating pattern in weekly downloads, starting at approximately 402K at the end of March and ending the quarter at around 257K. Weekly revenue showed a similar trend, peaking at about $459 in late May and closing the quarter at $388. Weekly active users remained relatively stable, hovering around 17.8M throughout the quarter.

Reddit maintained a steady download rate, with numbers ranging from 22K to 25K. Weekly revenue for Reddit showed growth, reaching its highest point at $807 in the final week of June. Active user numbers fluctuated slightly, peaking at approximately 458K in mid-June before ending the quarter at 453K.

Clubhouse experienced a downward trend in downloads, starting the quarter with 22K and ending at 15K. Active users for Clubhouse remained relatively consistent, with minor fluctuations, peaking at around 219K in late May.

Opera News: Breaking & Local showed a decline in weekly downloads, beginning at 76K and dropping to 53K by the end of June. The app's active users also saw a decrease, starting at 3.29M and ending the quarter at 2.92M.

Lastly, Quora had a varied download trend, beginning at 13K and peaking at 24K in early May, before stabilizing around 14K towards the end of the quarter. Active users for Quora saw some growth, peaking at 460K in late May and settling at 414K by the end of June.
