Top 5 Travel Apps in South Africa Q4 2021 Performance

In the fourth quarter of 2021, the top five travel applications in South Africa demonstrated diverse trends in downloads and active user metrics. Here’s an overview of their performance based on data from Sensor Tower.

Bolt: Request a Ride saw a fluctuating trend in weekly downloads, starting at around 67K in late September and experiencing a low of approximately 44K in the final week of December. Active users showed a similar pattern, peaking at about 842K in late October before dropping to around 690K by the end of the quarter.

DiDi Rider: Affordable rides experienced a decline in weekly downloads from around 92K at the beginning of the quarter to approximately 32K by the end of December. However, the number of active users remained relatively stable, fluctuating between 197K and 240K throughout the quarter.

Uber - Request a ride maintained a steady download rate, starting at around 24K and finishing the quarter at approximately 24K as well. Active users showed a slight decline from about 523K in late September to around 449K by the end of December.

Booking.com: Hotels & Travel had a consistent download rate, starting at around 15K in late September and ending the quarter at approximately 15K. Active users fluctuated but ended on a high note, increasing from approximately 196K at the start of the quarter to around 213K by the end of December.

inDrive. Save on city rides saw varied weekly downloads, beginning the quarter at around 22K, dropping to a low of approximately 12K in early December, and then finishing at around 16K. Active users showed a stable trend, starting at about 339K and ending at approximately 321K by the end of the quarter.
