During the fourth quarter of 2021, the top five travel applications in Africa demonstrated varied performance trends in terms of downloads and active users. Here’s a detailed look at how these apps fared:

Bolt: Request a Ride saw a fluctuating pattern in weekly downloads, starting strong with approximately 193K downloads in late September and peaking at around 202K in the week of December 20. The app’s weekly active users followed a similar trend, beginning the quarter with roughly 2.3M active users and hitting a high of nearly 2.7M in late October before settling at around 2.2M by the end of December.

inDrive. Save on city rides experienced a notable increase in weekly downloads, reaching a peak of about 237K in mid-October. However, the numbers dipped towards the end of November before rising again to approximately 177K by late December. Active user numbers for inDrive remained relatively stable throughout the quarter, oscillating between 870K and 957K.

Uber - Request a ride maintained a consistent download rate, with figures ranging from around 93K to 125K per week. The highest number of downloads was recorded in the week of December 20. The weekly active users for Uber showed a gradual decline over the quarter, starting at roughly 3M and ending at approximately 2.7M by the end of December.

DiDi Rider: Affordable rides had a relatively lower download rate compared to its competitors, with weekly downloads peaking at around 131K at the start of the quarter and then dropping to about 40K in early December. However, there was a significant spike to approximately 1.08M downloads in the final week of December. The app’s active user base remained steady, fluctuating between 280K and 329K throughout the quarter.

Booking.com: Hotels & Travel showed a steady download rate, with weekly downloads ranging from 25K to 35K. The highest download figures were seen in the week of December 20. The number of active users for Booking.com exhibited minor fluctuations, starting the quarter with around 490K and ending with approximately 517K active users in the final week of December.
