Top 5 News Apps Performance in Mexico Q4 2021

During the fourth quarter of 2021, the top 5 news applications in Mexico showed varied performance trends across weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s a closer look at how each app fared:

X experienced significant growth in weekly revenue, starting the quarter at around $8 and peaking at approximately $72 in mid-December before ending the year at $14. Weekly downloads for the app saw a peak of nearly 191K in early October, with fluctuations throughout the quarter, closing the year at 143K. Active users showed a consistent trend with minor fluctuations, maintaining around 12M users throughout the quarter.

Reddit saw its weekly revenue peak at $270 by the end of December, having started the quarter at $114. Downloads showed a steady increase, beginning at around 31K in late September and growing to approximately 37K by the end of the year. Active users remained relatively stable, fluctuating between 250K to 275K.

Spotify for Podcasters did not generate revenue during this period but showed a significant rise in downloads and active users. Downloads surged from around 29K at the end of September to over 82K by the end of December. The app's active user base also grew from approximately 84K to 143K during the same period.

SkyAlert: Alerta Sísmica experienced a notable decline in weekly revenue, from about $11.9K at the end of September to around $4.6K by the end of December. Downloads started at 15K but dropped significantly, stabilizing around 1.4K towards the end of the quarter. Active users also saw a downward trend, starting at about 63K and ending the year at approximately 17K.

Google News did not generate any revenue but had a steady increase in downloads and active users. Weekly downloads began at around 2.1K and peaked at 5.7K by the end of December. Active users showed some fluctuation but generally increased from about 1M to 1.15M over the quarter.
