In the fourth quarter of 2021, the top five navigation apps in Africa demonstrated varied performance in terms of weekly downloads, active users, and revenue. Here’s an overview of how each app performed, based on data from Sensor Tower.

Google Maps saw a consistent increase in weekly downloads, starting at approximately 45K downloads at the beginning of October and rising to about 50K by the end of December. The app maintained a stable number of weekly active users, hovering around 2.9M at the beginning of the quarter and slightly declining to about 2.8M by the end of December.

Find my Phone - Family Locator exhibited fluctuations in its weekly downloads, peaking at around 452K in early November and ending the quarter with approximately 78K downloads. Its weekly revenue showed a steady increase, peaking at $8.9K in early November. The app’s weekly active users saw a significant increase, reaching a peak of 474K in early November before stabilizing around 153K by the end of December.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic experienced a steady pattern in weekly downloads, with numbers ranging from approximately 17K to 26K throughout the quarter. The app’s weekly active users remained relatively stable, starting at about 484K and ending the quarter at around 472K.

The Bolt Driver App showed a gradual increase in weekly downloads, starting at around 39K at the end of September and reaching approximately 39K by the end of December. Its weekly active users also increased steadily from about 304K to 343K during the same period.

GhanaPostGPS maintained a relatively stable number of weekly downloads, ranging between 1.3K and 1.8K throughout the quarter. The app’s weekly active users remained consistent, averaging around 18.5K during the period.
