Top 5 iOS Navigation Apps in the UK: Q4 2021 Performance

In the fourth quarter of 2021, the top five navigation apps on the iOS platform in the United Kingdom showed notable trends in weekly downloads and active users. Data from Sensor Tower highlights the performance of Google Maps, Waze Navigation & Live Traffic, what3words: Navigation & Maps, Citymapper: All Live Transit, and Moovit: All Transit Options.

Google Maps saw its weekly downloads fluctuate, peaking at around 106K at the end of October and then gradually decreasing to about 59K by the end of December. The app maintained a high number of weekly active users, starting at approximately 9.3M and ending the quarter slightly lower at around 8.7M.

For Waze Navigation & Live Traffic, weekly downloads started at around 44K in late September and showed a declining trend, reaching approximately 23K by the end of December. Weekly active users also followed a downward trajectory, starting at about 2.7M and decreasing to around 2.2M.

what3words: Navigation & Maps experienced a peak in weekly downloads in mid-October, reaching nearly 28K, before falling to about 17K at the end of the quarter. Weekly active users for the app started at approximately 98K and saw a minor increase throughout the quarter, ending at around 84K.

Citymapper: All Live Transit had a relatively stable weekly download rate, fluctuating between 12K and 17K during the quarter. However, the number of weekly active users saw a significant drop, starting at approximately 224K and declining to around 168K by the end of December. The app also generated weekly revenue, peaking at about $1.2K in late September and declining to around $600 by the end of the quarter.

Finally, Moovit: All Transit Options had a steady decline in weekly downloads, starting at about 10K in late September and dropping to around 3.7K by the end of December. Weekly active users for Moovit began at approximately 61K and ended the quarter at around 58K.
