Top 5 Education Apps in Europe Q3 2021: Unified Platform Performance

In the third quarter of 2021, the education app market in Europe saw significant activity across both iOS and Android platforms. The top 5 education apps, based on downloads, revenue, and active users, were Duolingo - Language Lessons, PictureThis - Plant Identifier, Госуслуги Культура, Photomath, and Google Classroom.

Duolingo - Language Lessons saw a consistent increase in weekly revenue, peaking at around $956K in mid-September. Weekly downloads displayed a steady upward trend, reaching 449K by the end of September. The app’s active user base also showed a gradual increase, peaking at approximately 5.1M users in late August before experiencing a slight decline to 4.8M by the end of the quarter.

PictureThis - Plant Identifier experienced a decrease in both revenue and downloads throughout the quarter. Weekly revenue dropped from $555K at the start of July to $253K by the end of September. Downloads followed a similar downward trend, starting at 512K in late June and declining to 200K by the end of September. Active users also decreased steadily, from 1.7M in late June to 1.2M at the end of the quarter.

Госуслуги Культура, despite being a newer entrant, saw a significant spike in downloads upon release, with 1.5M in the week of August 30. However, this number quickly declined to 216K by the end of September. Active users mirrored this trend, peaking at nearly 2M in early September before dropping to 1M by the end of the month.

Photomath witnessed a substantial increase in downloads, especially in September, where it reached a peak of 466K. Revenue also grew towards the end of the quarter, climbing from $6K in early July to approximately $20K by late September. Active users surged significantly, particularly in late August, reaching a peak of 17.7M by the end of September.

Google Classroom had a notable increase in downloads, especially in September, where weekly downloads rose from 205K at the end of August to 515K by the end of September. Active users also saw a significant boost, growing from 6.4M in late June to 14.3M by the end of the quarter.
