Top 5 Shopping Apps on Android in Africa Q3 2021

In the third quarter of 2021, the top five shopping apps on the Android platform in Africa exhibited varied performance in terms of downloads and active users. Here’s a closer look at the data provided by Sensor Tower.

JUMIA Online Shopping saw consistent weekly downloads, starting at approximately 380K at the end of June and peaking at around 472K by the end of September. The app maintained a strong base of weekly active users, beginning the quarter with about 3.67M and ending with around 3.71M.

Alibaba.com - B2B marketplace experienced a steady climb in downloads, from about 219K in late June to around 352K by the end of September. Weekly active users also increased, starting at approximately 2.3M and reaching nearly 2.9M by the end of the quarter.

Amazon Shopping had a notable spike in weekly downloads in late August, jumping from around 21K to approximately 339K. This trend continued with downloads peaking at about 353K in mid-September. Weekly active users also surged, starting at around 1.05M in late June and growing to approximately 1.68M by the end of September.

SHEIN-Shopping Online showed a progressive increase in downloads, from about 56K at the end of June to approximately 120K by mid-September. Weekly active users followed a similar upward trajectory, beginning the quarter with around 497K and reaching approximately 626K by the end of September.

Souq.com experienced fluctuating download numbers, starting at about 113K in late June and dropping to around 9.6K by the end of September. The app's weekly active users also saw a decline, beginning the quarter with approximately 1.47M and ending with around 391K.
