Top 5 Finance Apps Performance in Africa Q2 2021

In the second quarter of 2021, the top five finance applications in Africa exhibited diverse trends in weekly downloads and active users, according to data from Sensor Tower. Here’s a closer look at the performance of these leading apps.

M-PESA from Safaricom Limited saw a dramatic rise in weekly downloads, peaking at approximately 1.2M in the week of June 14. The app's downloads fluctuated significantly, with notable spikes towards the end of the quarter. Active users also saw a substantial increase, reaching around 815.6K in mid-June and peaking at 751.9K in the week of June 21.

OPay-We are beyond Banking maintained robust weekly download numbers, with figures consistently above 100K for most of the quarter. The highest download count was around 157K in mid-April. Active user numbers remained high, peaking at approximately 808.5K in the final week of June, demonstrating consistent user engagement.

Capitec Bank from Capitec Bank Limited also showed strong performance. Weekly downloads peaked at about 163K in mid-April, though there was a noticeable decline towards the end of the quarter. However, active users remained stable and high, exceeding 2M throughout the quarter and reaching approximately 2.4M in the last week of June.

Binance: Buy Bitcoin & Crypto experienced varied download trends, with a peak of nearly 137.9K in mid-April. Active users followed a similar pattern, peaking at around 620.5K in early May before gradually declining to approximately 456.3K by the end of June.

Lastly, Trust: Crypto & Bitcoin Wallet showed strong weekly download figures, reaching about 127.7K in mid-April. Active users peaked at approximately 1M in early May, indicating a high level of engagement, although there was a gradual decline towards the end of the quarter.
