In the first quarter of 2021, the shopping category saw significant user engagement across various applications on the Android platform in Latin America. Sensor Tower provides a detailed insight into how these apps performed in terms of downloads and weekly active users.
Mercado Libre: Compras online, from publisher Mercado Libre based in Argentina, showed a high number of downloads, starting at 780K in the last week of December 2020 and peaking at 909K in mid-January. Downloads then experienced a gradual decline to 787K by the end of March. Weekly active users showed an upward trend from 33M to 35M in mid-January, followed by slight fluctuations and closing the quarter with around 34M active users.
The Singapore-based Shopee: 15.3 Dia do Consumidor also had a positive trend in downloads, beginning at 669K and reaching its highest at over 1M in the last week of March. The weekly active users saw an increase from 7M at the end of December to nearly 8.9M in the third week of March, before slightly dropping to around 8.8M active users.
SHEIN-Shopping Online by Roadget Business PTE. LTD., also from Singapore, started the quarter with 733K downloads and saw a peak of 900K in mid-January. The downloads then dipped to 593K in early March, but made a notable jump to 963K by the end of the quarter. Its weekly active users grew from 5M to a peak of 6.9M in mid-March, concluding the quarter with 8.1M active users.
Wish: Shop and Save, from US-based Wish Inc., began with 601K downloads and saw an increase to 808K by mid-January. Downloads then showed a decreasing trend, bottoming out at 454K in late March before a slight recovery to 505K. Weekly active users started at 5.4M, peaked at 5.7M in mid-January, and ended the quarter with around 5.3M.
Lastly, Amazon Shopping from Amazon Mobile LLC in the US, recorded 449K downloads at the beginning of the period, surging to 607K in the second week of January. Downloads then followed a downward trend to 367K by the end of March. Weekly active users remained relatively stable, starting at 6.7M, dipping to 6.2M in mid-February, and rising back to 6.7M in early March, finishing the quarter at 6.4M.
