Q1 2021 Performance of Top Auto Apps on Android in the US

In the first quarter of 2021, the Android Auto ecosystem saw varied performance across top applications in the United States. Sensor Tower's data provides an overview of how these apps fared in terms of downloads and active users.

Android Auto, published by Google LLC, exhibited a slight downward trend in downloads, starting the quarter with approximately 32K downloads and ending with around 21K. Weekly active users, however, showed a positive trajectory, increasing from 5.6M to nearly 6.9M over the same period.

The CARFAX - Shop New & Used Cars app showed an initial surge in downloads, climbing from 15K to 30K in early January, before experiencing a dip to around 23K by the end of March. Weekly active users peaked in mid-February at approximately 54K but then settled closer to 52K towards the quarter's end.

Android Auto for phone screens also saw a fluctuating download count, with notable peaks reaching nearly 26K. Its weekly active users saw a more consistent increase, climbing from around 2.7K to nearly 6K during the quarter.

The app Cars.com – New & Used Vehicles experienced a mid-quarter peak in downloads at over 20K, before a slight decline to 18K. The weekly active users showed resilience, maintaining an upward trend from 204K to 215K before a slight dip to approximately 207K.

Lastly, the Fuel Rewards® program by PDI Software, Inc. had its highest download numbers in mid-February with over 20K, but ended the quarter with around 19K downloads. The weekly active users varied, reaching over 106K in early February and closing the quarter with just over 101K.
